Phil "Smagical" Smage grew up on a family farm in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and built a career most action sports athletes only dream about — three X Games snowskating titles, three Guinness World Records, a spot on the Nitro Circus crew alongside Travis Pastrana, and a Top 10 finish on America's Got Talent with his brother Pat. He even toured the world playing Captain America in Marvel Universe Live.
In 2018, a world-record UTV distance jump attempt went catastrophically wrong. Phil broke his neck, wrist, ribs, and collarbone, and was told he might never walk again. Six months later he was back on a bike. He's defied every prognosis thrown at him, documenting his recovery daily on Instagram with the same energy he brought to every send — earning him the mantra "chase that daily 1 percent."
